Create or join a Burial Society and get covered as a group. A Burial Society is an organised group of people who help each other in the event of the death of a member or a dependent. You must have a minimum of 20 members and you can add as many people as you want. Members can also be on different EcoSure packages. Learn more about the EcoSure packages below:
What you need
The following must be met and submitted to create a Burial Society:
- Select an Executive Committee made up of Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer.
- Provide proof of residence, certified copies of ID’s and passport size photos for each Executive Committee Member.
- Complete an EcoSure Burial Society Application form and EcoCash Group Account application form. The Group Account will be used to facilitate payment of premiums and for the disbursement of claim amounts to the group.
- Have a constitution which governs the administration of the Burial Society
- Have a database which lists all the members. This must include all the members’ ID Numbers (Birth Entry Number for minors), Mobile Numbers, Gender, Date of Birth and their preferred EcoSure package.
If you want to make changes to your members database after your Burial Society has been formed, you must communicate it in writing before the payment of your monthly premium. A template is available at any Econet Service Centre to guide you.
- Deposit into the EcoCash Group account
Members can deposit their premiums directly into their EcoCash Merchant Account.

When making a bank transfer, the Treasurer must clearly indicate the name of the Burial Society and the Chairperson for traceability.
How to make a claim
When a Burial Society member or dependant passes on you will need to make a claim within 48 hours of the death, at any of the EcoSure Funeral Services Partner’s outlet or Econet Shop.
